Badminton Roundup with Jock Paget

Jock Paget and Clifton Lush

Congratulations goes to ReadySupp team rider Jock Paget who finished third this year at Badminton. William Fox-Pitt on Chilli Morning took the win after a perfect clear round in the show jumping on the last day, and Ingrid Klimke on Horseware Hale Bob took second after producing another of the other seven clear rounds jumped.

Paget finished third after a consistent performance over all phases. Lying 5th after the dressage he rode a strong clear round XC to maintain his position before the final day. Showjumping proved pivotal and after a field reshuffle four faults saw him move two spots up the leader board to finish third. Talking about the result Jock said, “Lush was incredible and way exceeded my expectations in all three phases after having 18 months off!”. The horse had been carefully brought back after injury.

Paget seems to have an amazing ability to remain focused under pressure at high profile events, he modestly puts it down to meticulous planning, “ticking one box at a time and trying not to get caught up in the hype of it all.”

Two lucky ReadySupp competition winners got to walk the course with Jock on the Friday and were impressed with his professionalism. When asked about the course he said, “It was definitely a 4* track although I thought it was obvious enough for the horses if it was ridden well. I didn’t see any traps.” Jock rode two clears on the Saturday (although unfortunately picked up a few time penalties on Clifton Promise).

When asked who he thought had stood out during the event Paget was quick to pick Brazilian rider Gabriel Silva Cury, who partnered Grass Valley, “I was very impressed with him, he rode like a legend!”.

Jock and his team head to Ireland for Tattersalls shortly with Clifton Signature.

ReadySupp rider Flora Harris had a bittersweet event after finishing top of the Brits on the first day of dressage with an impressive test on the talented grey mare Amazing VIII, she credits her improvement to training with dressage rider and trainer Andrew Fletcher. Unfortunately the horse sustained an injury XC and was withdrawn from the show jumping.

The other ReadySupper experienced rider Lucy Jackson and the lovely bay gelding Willy Do also unfortunately withdrew after the XC.
